2016 Confucius Institute Student and Young Professionals Study Tour

November 26 - December 9

The 2016 Confucius Institute Study Tour offers a fantastic opportunity for students and young professionals (aged 18-30) to learn about Chinese language and culture through a Nanjing University language short-course. The tour also includes a number of cultural activities, briefings and visits in Beijing, Nanjing and Shanghai.

This two week tour is subsidised by Confucius Institute Headquarters, offering a cost-effective option for participants. Total cost of the program is $2,900. Total cost covers:

  • International flights
  • Nanjing University tuition
  • Twin share accommodation
  • Cost of visa application and processing
  • Most meals
  • In-country transport
  • Tour leader (University of Melbourne staff member)

The tour is open to any students or young professionals aged 18-30 that are non-Chinese nationals. You do not need to be a student of the University of Melbourne or have studied Chinese previously to join this tour.

The Confucius Institute holds regular study and professional development tours in conjunction with our partner – Nanjing University.

China Today: Education & Society

Date: 22 September – 2 October 2016

Leading effective and sustainable change in schools requires new thinking. The China today program has been specifically designed to empower school leaders to develop deeper knowledge and understanding of China to support Chinese cultural and language programs in your school.

The China Today program provides participants with a unique opportunity to learn firsthand about a diverse and rapidly changing China. You will  gain deep understanding of education in China today in the context of economic development, the urban/rural divide and everyday life.

Over ten days, participants will visit four great cities: Beijing, the political and cultural centre; Shanghai, the economic engine; Hangzhou, said to be like ‘heaven on earth'; and Nanjing, home of one of China’s leading universities and centre of Chinese history.

Opportunities to interact with Chinese educators will be provided through a two-day principal shadowing program, school leaders forum, school visits and formal lectures at the top-ranked Nanjing University.

The program will include visits to world-famous historical sites such as the Great Wall of China and the Forbidden City, but also high-tech business regions, social enterprises, and cultural centres.

There are ten scholarships available for this study program that will be allocated to the first to apply.

PAST TOURS

Confucius Thought for School Leadership - China Study Programme 

October 16 – 27 2015

Asia Education Foundation and the Confucius Institute at the University of Melbourne have partnered to bring a unique study programme for school leaders. This program has been subsidised by Hanban Confucius Institute Headquarters in China so not only offers a unique opportunity for school leaders but also offers great value.  

Accompanied by Julia Gong, the Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Melbourne, participants will spend time in four key locations – Beijing, Qufu, Nanjing and Shanghai – to understand contemporary China and future impact on world affairs and education with an historic context.  

Share leadership experience with peers in China in a  leadership forum , and gain a deep understanding of the Confucius thought on school leadership.

Participants from Australia will meet with Australian Education International and Austrade staff to expand knowledge of Australia-China bilateral relations and the importance of educational linkages. The group will also take the high speed train to Qufu, home of the Confucius Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Qufu is famously known as the birthplace of Confucius. 

With a Hanban Scholarship (for the first 15 participants), the total cost to participants is only $4,380.00. This includes international airfares, visa, as single room accommodation and all land costs including meals. Victorian and Tasmanian school leaders are invited to submit an expression of Interest by Friday 29 May 2015.

2014 Confucius Institute Art and Cultural Tour : 22 November - 2 December

 

The 2014 Confucius Institute Art Study Tour offers a fantastic opportunity to learn about Chinese arts and culture through a ten day study tour to Shanghai, Suzhou and Beijing, led by accomplished Chinese-Australian painter Mr. Xu Huawen. The tour will include gallery visits, exchanges with local artists and a visit to the Shanghai Ballet School. The tour is open to anyone with an interest in the arts or Chinese culture. You do not need to be enrolled at the University of Melbourne or have studied Chinese arts previously to join this tour.

Total cost of the program is $3,800.00. Cost covers return international flights, visa, workshop tuition, single room accommodation, most meals, in-country transport and tour leader.

CI Principal and School Leaders China Study Tour

31/10/2013 – 12/11/2013

Developed specifically for principals and school leaders, this tour will offer participants an opportunity to visit China, focusing on Beijing, Nanjing and Shanghai. This two week program aims to build professional knowledge and understanding of China’s education system, reforms and achievements to date. You will have the opportunity to form links for school-to-school partnerships. The program will provide participants with opportunities to meet and network with principal colleagues and learn about China’s rich cultural heritage.

Confucius Institute Student and Alumni Study Tour

30/11/2013 – 12/12/2013

The 2013 Confucius Institute Study Tour offers a fantastic opportunity for CI students, alumni, family and friends to put their existing Chinese skills into practice, as well as extending their abilities through a one week intensive Nanjing University language course. The tour includes a number of cultural activities and sightseeing trips in Beijing, Nanjing and Shanghai.
